If you thought it impossible to modernise a classic play set in the time of the French Revolution, do yourself a favour and go and see Jonathan Holloways refreshing production of a Tale of Two Cities. This  production minimises the set to chairs, lights and shoes and fills the stage with the a story of love, loss, resurrection and revenge.

Rows of chairs create the streets, passages, and rooms that the scenes take place in. A pair of shoes under each chair is a poignant reminder of lives lost and a fitting connection to the central character. The cast of just seven have created a varied and well-rounded array of engaging characters.

A beautiful, emotional and thoughtful production, this re-imagining brings the Charles Dickens classic comfortably into modern theatre.
