State Needs
It’s developed for individuals recovering from mental illnesses. Elements of “Applied Theatre” are adopted to meet various needs, teaching about listening, relief, patience, and acceptance. Participants then embrace themselves, and further engaged in activities with fellow recoverees, embodying the spirit of self-help and mutual support, and promoting a culture of care and understanding.
Presenter: Joyful (Mental Health) Foundation
Participants: Secondary School Students
Characteristics: Advocacy of the message of mental health, anti-discrimination and destigmatisation towards the mental disordered.
Content: Chung Ying Theatre Company was invited to organise this programme under the Joyful Jockey Club Mental School Project for 3 consecutive years, leading students to acquire emotional health knowledge, and perform in school tours after training. Students from 7 secondary schools took part, engaging in a total of 57 touring performances.
Collaborator: Caritas Wellness Link – Tsuen Wan
Participants: Rehabilitated people from emotional illnesses and their caretakers
Characteristics: Self-confidence is enhanced primarily through learning stage performance techniques. Participants’ courage is built up as they share personal experiences and feelings. Their final performance will be staged with an integration of drama, movement and video projection.
Content: Chung Ying Theatre Company cooperated with Caritas Wellness Link – Tsuen Wan to provide drama education training for 3 consecutive years. Participants were encouraged to express their feelings for building confidence and a positive attitude towards life.

Characteristics: Elements of “Playback Theatre” were adopted to develop a sense of “Listening for Wellness” and the corresponding drama programme.
Content: With professional guidance, participants learn about listening, relief, reflection, patience, and acceptance through drama. Subsequently, participants equipped with the corresponding skills, and engaged further in drama activities with other recoverees, delivering the spirit of self-help and mutual support, and also promoting a culture of care and understanding.
