Founded in 2008, the “Yuen Long‧Tin Shui Wai Youth Musical Theatre Group” aims at providing drama and arts training to teenagers living in remote areas and promoting arts appreciation among the community, thus nurturing future generation of drama artists.
Starting from 2012, the Lee Hysan Foundation has become a strategic partner of the Group with provision of generous financial support for more than ten consecutive years.
In 2015, after renaming as “Muse Up! Youth Musical Theatre Troupe” (“Muse Up!”), it has expand the services to Tung Chung. All the troupe members are youngsters aged 8 to 17. After receiving musical theatre training, they will proceed to perform on stage in professional theatre.
Art is not the the sole focus of Muse Up! Chung Ying arouse social awareness among troupe members through community tour and social services. They learn to care for the needs of different communities, and promote theatre arts to different segments of the society.
Starting from 2017, the “research-based theatre” approach has been adopted for thematic research. Troupe members then presented their findings through drama performance on stage. Over the years, more than 370 youths have been nurtured and a total of over 25,000 individuals have benefitted from this programme.
In 2020, Muse Up! earned the “Award for Arts Education in Schools (Non-School Division)” under “The 14th Hong Kong Arts Development Awards” which is organised by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
Muse Up! (2024-2026) is now recruiting troupe members. This year’s theme will be “Youth Mental Health”. Youngsters aged 8-17 in Yuen Long, Tin Shui Wai, Tung Chung and other nearby areas* are eligible. Full or half subsidy for tuition fees will be granted to applicants who are currently receiving full/half grant under the Financial Assistance Scheme or Comprehensive Social Security Assistance.
*Nearby areas mean Tuen Mun, Tsuen Wan and Tsing Yi. Chung Ying Theatre Company reserves final discretion on arrangement.
